Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK)
Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) is a leading public university located in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The USK was founded in 1961 and is the longest-established and largest institution of higher education in the Aceh region. Over time, it has evolved into a prominent centre for education, research, and community engagement, both nationally and internationally.
The university currently serves a substantial academic community, comprising over 35,000 students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supported by approximately 2,300 academic staff. This scale is indicative of its role as a major hub for human resource development in western Indonesia.
USK is organised into 12 faculties and one graduate school, which collectively offer a comprehensive range of academic disciplines. These include engineering, medicine, agriculture, social sciences, economics, education, and marine sciences. The university offers a wide range of educational pathways, encompassing diploma, bachelor's, professional, master's, specialist, and doctoral degrees.
The institution offers a plethora of academic programmes, including approximately 63 undergraduate programmes, 36 master's programmes, several professional and specialist programmes, and doctoral degrees across multiple fields. These programs have been subject to rigorous accreditation, attaining high national standards and demonstrating increasing alignment with international quality frameworks.
USK is widely recognised for its strong commitment to research and innovation, particularly in the domains of disaster science, agriculture, and sustainable development. The university has pursued a strategy of international collaboration, student mobility programmes and joint research initiatives, with a view to strengthening its global academic presence and contributing to regional and national development.
