Three representatives involved in the PASEC project participated in the international workshop “Transforming Biotechnology and Agriculture: Bridging Biodiversity and Digital Innovation for Natural Sustainability”, held on 12–13 August 2026 at the Hermes Palace Hotel in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
The international workshop, hosted by Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), brought together researchers, academics, policymakers and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and discuss recent developments in biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation and digital innovation. Particular attention was given to interdisciplinary approaches and emerging technologies that can contribute to sustainable natural resource management and agricultural transformation in the era of digitalisation.
The PASEC project was represented at the event by Prof. Iskandar Z. Siregar from IPB University (Bogor) and Prof. Hizir Sofian and Prof. Ikhsan Sulaiman from Universitas Syiah Kuala (Banda Aceh).
Prof. Iskandar Z. Siregar participated as an invited speaker, presenting the topic “From Biodiversity Conservation to Bioeconomy: Leveraging the Nagoya Protocol for Sustainable Innovation”. His presentation addressed the role of biodiversity conservation, responsible management of genetic resources and international cooperation in developing resilient agricultural and forestry systems and promoting an inclusive and sustainable bioeconomy.
The workshop programme also included thematic sessions addressing agricultural innovation and biotechnology, biodiversity for sustainable agriculture, and digital innovation for smart and sustainable farming, providing valuable opportunities for scientific exchange, networking and the development of future collaboration.
Alongside their participation in the workshop, the three PASEC representatives held a project coordination meeting to discuss ongoing PASEC activities, current progress and upcoming project tasks. The meeting provided an opportunity for direct exchange and coordination of further activities within the project.
Participation in the Banda Aceh workshop contributed to strengthening the international visibility of the PASEC project, connecting its objectives with broader discussions on sustainable agriculture, biodiversity and digital innovation, and further reinforcing cooperation among project partners.
